Making a cleaner image

About the Tutorial:
This is a very simple tutorial that helps you get rid of spots, scratches, folds on an image. For this part, we will focus on getting rid of the folds on a paper only.
Please note that this will apply best to black and white documents.
We'll be converting the first image to the second:

Step by Step:
Open the image you want to change in PS.
Duplicate the layer.
With the layer selected, use the keyboard shortcut ALT +L.
When you do that, a window that allows you to change levels pops up. It would look like this:
Now select the third color picker-like tool on the bottom right (the one I've circled in blue below) and select a grayed area on your image.
The moment you click an area on the image, the image lightens up. Look at the layer change below:

Be patient. You may not see your desired effects on the first gray area you select. You may have to choose different areas. Some may cause the image to change too brightly and some not at all. Try and select an area that does not compromise the font (in this case) or image that you're working with.
If you're unhappy with the selection, type ALT + Z and choose a different area. You will realise you can only undo your change once. If you select an area, and then select a different area, you can not go back to the original state. Cancel and try again.
Once you're happy with your selection and find one where the folds in the paper have disappeared, click on OK.
It took me 3-4 places to be satisfied, but this is what I've got (see below).
Ofcourse, since I've resized and cropped a certain part of the actual image for the purpose of this tutorial, the results yielded an image with a faded font -- something you'll realise you have complete control over once you start experimenting with it.
There are other changes you can make. Sometimes you're left with gray areas on the sides that can be easily taken care of by brushing over with a white color.
I hope this helps. You can do the same for forms, hand outs, manga scans and even drawings to some extent. Good Luck!
